VICTORIA FALLS
ACCESS to Victoria Falls Zimbabwe is assured with
24 international flights every week – 21 from
Johannesburg and three from Namibian capital, Windhoek.
These are complemented by a daily flight from Harare
by Air Zimbabwe, plus a good road network from the
South African border at Beit Bridge right through
to the Falls.
Additionally Air Botswana flies into Kasane, Chobe,
just a 90-minute road transfer (and often a game drive
itself) to the Falls and Nationwide, BA Comair and
SAA all fly into Livingstone, Zambia, just a 30-minute
transfer across the bridge border into Zimbabwe.
And Air Zimbabwe is gearing up for the building momentum
– they have approval to buy four more modern
jets – two 767s and two 737s.
Climate guide
There are three distinct seasons in the Victoria
Falls area. May to August is cooler and dry, with
average high temperatures ranging from 25-27°C
(77-81°F) and average lows between 7-10°C
(45-50°F).
September to October/November is hot and dry, with
average highs between 32-34°C (90-93°F) and
average lows between 15-19°C (59-66°F). November/December
to April is warm and wet, with high humidity.
Victoria Falls enjoys a mild and dry winter from
around June to mid-August and as one can see from
the temperatures above it is an all year round destination.
We have a warm to hot spring until the rains start
in mid-November; it becomes warm and wet and stays
so until the rainy season passes at the end of April!
The rainy season is often characterised by sudden
torrential downpours with violent storms followed
as quickly by blue skies and sunshine.
Annual rains start in the middle of November but it's
only in January that the headwaters hit Victoria Falls,
levels climb again and 'high water season' starts.
The peak of the annual flood usually hits the falls
around Easter time. Rafting stops when the Zambezi
is in full spate, sometimes from around mid March
to early May each year. The dry season generally runs
from May to October through the southern fall (Autumn),
winter and into spring. The summer wet season itself,
also referred to as the 'Green Season', generally
starting with fresh rains in November.
The Victoria Falls – Now In Its 150 Millionth
Fantastic Year - Reaches Its Zenith In About May Each
Year.
It’s a truly awe-inspiring experience –
the sight, the sound, the smell; the humbling feeling
that here indeed is Nature’s Supreme Masterpiece.
No photograph can begin to depict the reality…and
nothing prepares you for your first sight. With Livingstone’s
statue, the Main Falls and 70% of the mile-wide view
located on the Zimbabwe side this is one of those
must-do-in-my-lifetime experiences, and destinations,
that always surpasses expectations.
Best viewing is usually between the months of February
through July, but be prepared to get wet! The skies
above may be blue, but the billowing spray from the
Falls spirals high into the air and a torrent comes
crashing down. However, viewing the Falls at any time
of the year is always spectacular, even just to witness
the amazing topography of the Batoka Gorge. The Main
Falls are an impressive sight and can be viewed 365
days of the year – from the Zimbabwe side. It’s
always a good idea to view the falls from the air
in order to appreciate the full perspective. Experience
The Flight of Angels in a helicopter or stretch your
adventure by taking the flip in a floatplane that
takes off and lands on the Zambezi River. Open-sided,
this plane offers incredible photo opportunities and
is unique to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
Continue your adventure on the Zambezi by experiencing
the wet and wild ride in a jet boat that even creeps
right up to the Boiling Pot virtually under the spray
of the Falls. White water rafting is also a real adrenaline
pump in the lower gorge and the new Victoria Falls
Bridge tour offers a historical and informative insight
into 100 years of Victorian engineering as well as
magnificent views of the falls and the Batoka Gorge.
Vic Falls is praised for world-class hotels, elegant
lodges, good B&Bs, excellent camp sites, thrilling
game viewing and for being “the epicentre”
of Southern Africa’s adventure sports. “The
rand, euro, pound or US dollar will buy more fun and
luxury than anywhere else in Africa and the people
are amongst the friendliest on the continent.”
Victoria Falls Fly In - 4 Days / 3 Nights Package 2010

Day 1
On arrival you will be met by Hedgehog Safaris representative and transferred from Victoria Falls Airport to hotel in Victoria Falls.
Zambezi River Cruise

In the afternoon you will be picked up from the hotel for a Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi River. The Zambezi River is the 4th largest in Africa after the Nile, Zaire and Niger respectively. The source is in North Western Zambia and flows approximately 2800km to its mouth in Mozambique into the warm Indian Ocean. The cruises are shaded and gently make their way upstream towards the National Park, usually accompanied by a brief talk about the River and its wildlife by your skipper. Relax and enjoy the riverine vegetation one of which is the Mulala Palm - a tall attractive palm tree that produces a vegetable ivory fruit that grows to the size of a cricket ball. The bird life is excellent while you cruise past hippo and occasionally crocodile. In the drier months, wildlife such as elephant and many antelope species can be seen grazing on the Riverbanks or swimming across to the smaller islands. The cruises last approximately 2 hours.

Day 2
AM Guided Falls Tour

After breakfast enjoy a guided Tour of The Falls. The Victoria Falls is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world and is arguably the greatest waterfall in the world. David Livingstone was the first European to visit the Falls and named it after Queen Victoria. The local name is perhaps more descriptive - Mosi oa Tunya (meaning the Smoke that Thunders). This spectacle occurs when the tranquil expanse of the Zambezi River plunges over a chasm 1708 metres wide and 103 metres deep, creating a shower of spray and a deafening noise. The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours, guided by a courier through the Rainforest along a 1.7Km ramble. After a briefing and explanation of the Falls, the guide walks with the guests along the path, stopping at the numerous viewpoints to gaze at the Falls. AM or Pm trips.
The rest of the day is at leisure for optional activities.
